What is an OPD file?

OmniPage Document

The OPD file extension is being used in documents generated and/or saved using OmniPage scanning software. OmniPage is one of the pioneering programs in optical character recognition (OCR) mainstream.

Launched by Caere Corporation in the early '80s, OmniPage was continuously developed to increase its adaptability to operating systems' changing trends. OmniPage is now part of Nuance Communications and is supported by different PC platforms. An OPD file is a document file type that usually includes pictures, scanned images, texts, and layout descriptions. By using the OmniPage software, you can quickly go through the scanned files and edit them according to your preference. The OPD file extension is also considered a proprietary file type that can only be accessed and modified using OmniPage programs. Editing documents in other OCR programs may not be possible since .opd files may be DRM-protected.
