M File - opening and understanding

Did your computer fail to open a M file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .M files.

What is a M file?

Files that contain the .m file extension are normally class implementation files. These files are used by software applications that have been written in the Objective-C programming language. The M file that is used by this language initializes variables and functions that can be referenced by other files on the system.

The .m file extension is also used by the Mathematica software application. This program uses the .m file extension for function and commands files.

The Maple software program also uses the .m file extension. When the .m file extension is used by the Maple software the files contain common binary files.

How to open M files

You will need a program compatible with the specific file you are trying to open, as different programs may use files with file extension M for different purposes.
