Opening M files

Did your computer fail to open a M file? We explain what M files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your M files.

What is a M file?

Files that contain the .m file extension are normally class implementation files. These files are used by software applications that have been written in the Objective-C programming language. The M file that is used by this language initializes variables and functions that can be referenced by other files on the system.

The .m file extension is also used by the Mathematica software application. This program uses the .m file extension for function and commands files.

The Maple software program also uses the .m file extension. When the .m file extension is used by the Maple software the files contain common binary files.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
