What are KAR files and how to open them

What is a KAR file?

KAR files have multiple uses, and Karaoke MIDI is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Karaoke MIDI

Files that contain the .kar file extension are most commonly associated with Karaoke MIDI files. The KAR files contain song lyrics and data that is used to display the lyrics of a song in time with the music during a Karaoke session. Files with the .kar extension do not contain any actual audio data themselves.

The KAR file format was developed by the Tune 1000 Corporation, although the software company abandoned the file format later on. Even though Tune 1000 company no longer supports the KAR file format, KAR files are still commonly used in a variety of shareware Karaoke applications.

We know that one KAR format is PolyPlot Card Data. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
