What is an ITR file?

An .ITR file is an Icy Tower Replay file.

Icy Tower Replay (.ITR) files are used by the game Icy Tower, developed by Free Lunch Design, to save recording data of a completed run so that it can later be viewed or shared. These files store a replay of the player's inputs and movements during gameplay, which allows the exact session - including jumps, floor progression, and character movement - to be replayed in the game environment. Some replays may also include optional player comments.

Files with the .ITR extension are created automatically by Icy Tower when a player finishes or chooses to save a replay. Icy Tower itself is the program that reads and plays these files back; the replays live in the game's "profiles/[profile_name]/replays/" folder. Replays serve for reviewing performance, comparing with others, or verifying scores in competitive settings.

ITR files are binary and begin with a fixed header that identifies them. At offset zero the ASCII characters "ITR001" appear. Additional byte-signatures include a field of two zero bytes at offset 8 and five zero bytes at offset 35.
