What is a FLP file?

FL Studio Track

The FruityLoops software application also uses the .flp file extension. This software is used to create music loops and entire songs for play on a user's computer. The FLP files that are used by this program contain references to audio files that are used by the FruityLoops application.

Adobe Flash Project

The Adobe Flash Project (.FLP) format is a project file used by Adobe Flash (now part of Adobe Animate). It serves as a container for organizing multiple source documents - known as FLA or related assets like SWF files - into a single structured workspace. These projects are useful when building complex multimedia applications, interactive content or animations that span several files.

FLP files are authored using the Flash authoring tool. When you set up a project, you create or collect FLA documents and other related files such as graphics, audio or external SWF/Fla files, and group them under the project. The editor provides a Project panel to manage these: adding files, nesting folders, tracking missing files or version control. The project file itself does not embed all media content; rather, it references each item by filename and path so that assets remain external and up-to-date.

Internally, an .flp project file is an XML document encoded in UTF-8. It lists every file included in the project, along with folder structure and metadata like versions, file names, and project name. The file begins with an XML signature identifying it as a Flash project, and contains strings such as VERSION and NAME that denote metadata fields.

Floppy Disk Image

Files that contain the .flp file extension are disk image files that have been created from a 3.5" floppy disk. These files can be created with the DOS operating system or with older versions of the Windows operating system.

The FLP files can be used as bootable files or can be used to boot up a guest's operating system on a virtualized platform.
