The D80 file extension indicates to your device which app can open the file. However, different apps may use the same file extension for different types of data. So a D80 opener may not be able to open all kinds of D80 files. In this case, though, we only know of one specific use.
Commodore 8050 Diskette Dump
A D80 file contains a byte-for-byte dump of a single-sided 5.25" Commodore 8050 diskette used by their PET and CBM home computers. Each disk can contain 533248 bytes.
These dump files contain an exact copy of the disk contents and can be used in emulators that let you run games and programs for Commodore PET and CBM on your modern PC. This format is similar to D64, which contains a dump of a diskette formatted for the Commodore 1541 disk drive.
