AXT File
What are AXT files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an AXT file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AXT files.
What is an AXT file?
An .AXT file is a ZenWorks SnAPPshot ASCII Application Object Template file.
ZenWorks SnAPPshot ASCII Application Object Template files are plain-text templates created by the snAppShot tool from Novell ZENworks for Desktops. They record everything that changed on a workstation during an application's installation - file additions, registry edits, INI/text file modifications, and environment changes - and package that information so the application can later be deployed across many workstations using Novell's management system.
These templates are produced by snAppShot after it compares the state of a clean workstation before and after the installation of an application. Along with the template, snAppShot generates supporting files: the actual application source files (copied during installation and renamed with numeric .FIL extensions), and a file definition map ("FILEDEF.TXT") that links the .FIL files back to their original paths. The template is then used in Novell's Administrative tools (such as ConsoleOne or the New Application Object wizard) to create an Application object in Novell eDirectory.
The template exists in two forms: a binary version (.AOT) and a human-readable text version. The text version can be edited using any text editor and is helpful for administrators who want to tailor parts of the application definition manually. The binary version imports more quickly into Novell's system and tends to be less error-prone because it follows stricter internal formatting.
AXT templates begin with an ASCII signature identifying it as an AXT application template file. They contain keywords and sections like "APPLICATION NAME", "APPLICATION CAPTION", "APPLICATION FLAGS", "ON PATH", and "VALUE" that label different properties of the managed application object.
