Opening AXX files

Did your computer fail to open an AXX file? We explain what AXX files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your AXX files.

What is an AXX file?

Files with the extension .axx are encrypted files created and used by the encryption package, AxCrypt. AxCrypt is an encryption
program that features seamless integration with Windows Explorer and contains extensive command-line interface for scripting and
programming.

AXX file contains a file or group of files that are encrypted with AES (advanced encryption standard) which also includes password
protection feature. This file is also accessed and treated as an ARJ compressed file, which normally requires a password and
optionally, a key file to access the contents inside.

AXX is a file extension for an ARJ compressed multi-volume archive file format. The xx characters in .axx format is a representation
of the number of volumes that are stored in the archive. For example, the archive contains 75 compressed files, the name of the file
will be- "file.a75". Spanning files is a common strategy utilized when maximizing the storage on smaller media. All of the original
volumes of a spanned archive need to be in the same directory in order to be extracted.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
