What are AIFF files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an AIFF file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AIFF files.
What is an AIFF file?
An .AIFF file is an Audio Interchange File Format audio file.
Files with the AIFF file extension are Audio Interchange File Format audio files. Normally they are created with the .aiff file extension, but it is relatively common to see them using the .AIF file extension instead.
The AIFF file format was developed by Apple in 1988 and is based on Electronic Arts' Interchange File Format, which was widely used on the Amiga home computer.
The audio data in AIFF files is uncompressed, so AIFF files' size is much bigger than compressed audio file formats like MP3. A lesser-known variant of AIFF contains compressed audio data, and those files are normally using the .aifc file extension.
