What are AAX files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an AAX file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your AAX files.
What is an AAX file?
AAX files have multiple uses, and Audible Enhanced Audio is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Audible Enhanced Audio
These AAX files are Audible Enhanced Audiobook files, a file format used by audiobook services. It is the improved version of the AA file format.
You will mostly find this file extension in visual audiobooks, for example, a children's book. This is because AAX supports the display of images, so while you are playing the audio, you will see the images in the audio player.
Like AA, AAX has access to audio, bookmarks, and chapter information, but with bonus benefits like images. They encode the file format with AAC to ensure high-quality audio.
As an Apple iTunes, iPod, or Amazon Kindle 2 user with a paid Audible.com account, you can easily access and play this file type. With DRM (Digital Right Management), it is impossible to play this file on any other player.
