What is an AAUI file?

An .AAUI file is an Acrobat User Interface Data file.

Acrobat User Interface Data files are configuration files used by Adobe Acrobat (starting with Acrobat XI) to define and share custom toolbars, panels, and other interface elements called "Tool Sets." These files allow users to export the layout, labels, and organization of tools they often use, then import the same setup on another installation of Acrobat or share it with others.

Such a file is generated by Acrobat when a user creates or modifies a Tool Set through the Customize or Manage Tool Sets panel. The user's custom UI configuration is saved in this format. Acrobat reads these files when importing a Tool Set, rebuilding the interface elements as specified. Users don't edit them directly, except via Acrobat's interface.

Acrobat User Interface Data is an XML-based format. Files begin with the standard XML declaration ("<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>") and contain tags such as COMPONENT NAME, LABEL, MAJORVERSION, MINORVERSION, and TOOLSPANE. These files also include strings like "ACROBATUI XMLNS", "NS.ADOBE.COM", "FAVORITES", "TITLE" and HTTP values, all encoded in UTF-8.
