What are MDE files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a MDE file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your MDE files.

What is a MDE file?

The .mde file extension is most commonly associated with the Microsoft Access database application. When Microsoft Access is used to compile database modules and remove editable source codes, the resulting database file is stored in MDE format. These files allow users to perform operations within the database without allowing them to make any changes to the database objects or code.

The .mde file extension is also used for Tonline database files and ArchiCAD educational version module files.
