3DZ File
What are 3DZ files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a 3DZ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your 3DZ files.
What is a 3DZ file?
A .3DZ file is a 3DZ QVox Volume file.
3DZ QVox Volume files store volumetric data made of voxels, created and edited by the QVox program. They are used to represent three-dimensional volumes of colored voxels (a sort of 3D pixel grid) for viewing, rendering or manipulation inside QVox. Someone using QVox might save a scene, object, or model as a .3dz file to preserve its 3D voxel content.
These files are produced by QVox (a volumetric data visualizer and editor) when a user saves or exports a volume they have created or modified. Other software that supports volumetric voxel data may be able to import or open these .3dz files. The typical workflow involves creating or editing a voxel volume in QVox, then exporting, rendering, or converting it for use in graphics or simulation applications.
A technical identifier for 3DZ files is the ASCII header "3dz.size=" at the very start of the file (bytes 0 through some following bytes), marking the format uniquely.
How to open 3DZ files
Important: Different programs may use files with the 3DZ file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your 3DZ file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested five different 3DZ openers which you will find listed below.
