Notepad++ (pronounced as Notepad Plus Plus) is a text editor for Microsoft Windows platforms that gives several new functionalities over the default text editor in Windows, Notepad. Notepad++, although it can serve several purposes, Notepad++ is most popularly known and a choice application for source code editing, in which it has won SourceForge’s award for a Community Choice for Developers software. It is most commonly used by programmers, web designers, and developers for its ease of use; its main advantage over Notepad is that it uses a tabbed editing design, allowing for one instance of Notepad++ to access several source codes or text files all at once. Notepad++ is written using the C++ programming language.
Notepad++ is also classified as freeware, and it is hosted at SourceForge where, to date, it has gained over 27 million downloads. The application also fully supports macros and plugins, some of which are included in a package for the application itself. As of this writing, there are about 27 distinct plugins for Notepad++, which includes such features as W3C validation for HTML and CSS. It also features support for multiple languages, such as French and Chinese, plus it claims to use less CPU power than even Notepad.
