What is Evince?

Evince is a software program originally developed to work in conjunction with the GNOME desktop environment. The software was developed primarily to provide users with a single application that can open various document files, as opposed to the multiple viewers GNOME utilizes to open various document file formats.

Evince supports documents in the following formats: PDF, PostScript, TIFF, XPS, DVI, and Comic Book archives CBR, CBZ, CB7 and CBT. The software provides a Search option which displays the results in the Search window, highlighting the keywords or phrases the user inputted in the search box to find specific documents.

Thumbnails of document pages may also be displayed when viewing a document, to allow the user to view parts of the documents without having to go to every page of the document. In addition to thumbnail views, the software also supports viewing of 2 pages at a time. Full-screen view and slideshows are also included in the software’s viewing features.

The software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7; as well as Linux.
