What are WTF files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a WTF file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your WTF files.

What is a WTF file?

WTF files have multiple uses, and World of Warcraft Configuration is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

World of Warcraft Configuration File

Files that contain the .wtf file extension are often associated with the World of Warcraft game by Blizzard Entertainment.

These files contain settings used by the game during a user's gameplay, such as audio and display settings.

When a World of Warcraft (also known as WoW) player modifies the settings in the game, the WTF files will also change accordingly.

In some cases, the settings of the World of Warcraft game can be modified and customized by editing the WTF files themselves.

Wintrac Log Data

Wintrac Log Data files store recorded data from Thermo King logging hardware used in refrigerated transport systems to monitor things like temperature, setpoints, alarms, door openings, and controller status. The Wintrac software application downloads files with the .WTF extension from devices such as TouchLog, ServiceWatch, CargoWatch, and SR-controllers. These files are used with Wintrac to display and analyze historical performance during trips and deliveries.

These .WTF files are written by the Wintrac software after it retrieves raw log information from Thermo King data loggers. Inside Wintrac, data from these files can be viewed graphically or in tables, and exported or merged for reporting. Typical usage includes generating CSV, PDF, or TXT summaries once the data are loaded into Wintrac. Devices capture timestamped sensor readings, digital switch (door) events, and vehicle-controller metadata.

The .WTF files can be identified by a signature at the start: they begin with the ASCII characters "Wintrac3 " starting at byte offset 0.
