Opening WRI files

Did your computer fail to open a WRI file? We explain what WRI files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your WRI files.

What is a WRI file?

Files that contain the .wri file extension are text documents that have been created with the Windows Write word processing application. WRI files can contain page formatting and stylized texts but the Write application is not as versatile as Word and the WRI files will not contain as many features as a DOC file might.

Windows Write is a word processing application that was included with early versions of the Windows operating system. It was similar in nature to the current NotePad application. The files that are created with this software are saved with the .wri file extension.

Microsoft Write was discontinued after Windows version 3.1 and Microsoft's NotePad application began to take its place.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
