What is a WAX file?

A .WAX file is a Windows Media Audio Shortcut file.

Files with the .wax extension are most commonly used by the Windows Media player. The WAX files contain a shortcut to a WMA file located on the Internet. The WAX file does not contain the actual audio file - only a reference to the location of the Internet file.

When a user clicks the associated icon on the desktop, the WAX file will launch the audio file on the user's computer as long as the computer is connected to the Internet.
