What are VPK files and how to open them

What is a VPK file?
VPK files have multiple uses, and Valve Pak Archive is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Valve Pak Archive
VPK (Valve Pak) files are uncompressed archives used to package game content. Some of Valve's games store materials, models, particles, choreography scenes, and many other file types in VPK files.
VPK files are also used to distribute modifications (mods) via the addoninstaller tool that ships with some games.

While Valve Pak Archive is a popular type of VPK-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .VPK file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Verge Game Engine packfile that contains a collection of graphics, sound, and code within a single file. Packfiles are kind of like a zip file.
Verge was created to help developers design RPGs, although it can be used to create almost any game in the SuperNintendo or Genesis style. The VPK files are written in the C++ programming language, allowing for greater flexibility.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested two different VPK openers which you will find listed below.
PlayStation Vita Application Package
We know that one VPK format is PlayStation Vita Application Package. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
