The SGM file extension indicates to your device which app can open the file. However, different apps may use the same file extension for different types of data. So a SGM opener may not be able to open all kinds of SGM files. In this case, look through both formats to make sure you find the best suited SGM viewer.
Standard Generalized Markup File
SGM is an acronym for Standard Generalized Markup. Files that are saved with the .sgm file extension are written in the SGM syntax. It is a standardized format used to define features of markup-languages like HTML and XML.
SGM files can also be saved with the .sgml file extension, although the .sgm extension is the more popular form of the file suffix.
