What are SGM files and how to open them

What is a SGM file?
SGM files have multiple uses, and Standard Generalized Markup is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Standard Generalized Markup File
SGM is an acronym for Standard Generalized Markup. Files that are saved with the .sgm file extension are written in the SGM syntax. It is a standardized format used to define features of markup-languages like HTML and XML.
SGM files can also be saved with the .sgml file extension, although the .sgm extension is the more popular form of the file suffix.
How to open SGM files
Important: Different programs may use files with the SGM file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your SGM file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
