What is a SGML file?
A .SGML file is a Standard Generalized Markup Language file.
SGM is an acronym for Standard Generalized Markup Language. Files that are saved with the .sgml file extension are written in the SGML syntax. It is a standardized format used to define features of markup-languages like HTML and XML. You can say it is a format used to define the rules that must be followed to make, e.g., an HTML document valid.
SGML files can also be saved with the .sgm file extension, although the .sgm extension is the more popular form of the file suffix.
