Opening RST files

Did your computer fail to open a RST file? We explain what RST files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your RST files.

What is a RST file?

The .rst file extension is commonly linked text files containing codes written in the reStructuredText markup language. The RST or reStructuredText is a file format for textual data used primarily in the Python programming language community. The .rst files are made for keeping and managing technical documentation of systems that basically used Python. Since .rst are text files, basic styles and formatting can be applied to the text to suit the user's preferred set. RST is also used for in-line program documentation (primarily for Python), and for creating documents and website contents.

The name 'reStructuredText' indicate the the file is a "revised, reworked, and reinterpreted StructuredText. Moreover, reStructuredText is a lightweight markup language designed to be both modifiable by documentation processing software and easily readable by human programmers who are reading and writing the Python source code.
