A .RGSS2A file is a RPG Maker VX Encrypted Archive file.

RPG Maker VX Encrypted Archive files are binary game data archives created by the RPG Maker VX software made by Enterbrain. These files are used when a developer wants to package all of their game's resources (including maps, graphics, audio, characters, items, scripts) into a single encrypted file so that users cannot easily view or modify the contents.

Such files are produced from within RPG Maker VX via the Compress Game Data function with the "Create Encrypted Archive" option enabled. Once created, the software uses the archive during gameplay to load the necessary assets internally rather than from loose files. Script data (the game's code) is always read from inside the archive.

Internally, the file begins with a specific sequence of bytes that identify it as this encrypted archive type. That signature is the ASCII string "RGSSAD" followed by a zero byte and a version marker (one), located at byte offset zero.
