Opening QXD files

Did your computer fail to open a QXD file? We explain what QXD files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your QXD files.

What is a QXD file?

The file extension .qxd is associated with the files used in the QuarkXpress Desktop Publishing software. QXD file is a page layout file that contains formatted text and images as well as document properties used to create starting forms and blueprints for newspapers, magazines, flyers, books, and brochures.

QuarkXpress is a software designed to run on Microsoft Windows as well as in Apple Mac. It is a useful software that caters to the formatting needs of publishing, creative design and page layout, printing and production, text processing, Web page design and PPML, XML, and media-independent publishing.

QuarkXPress is popularly used by designers and large publishing houses to create a variety of layouts from flyers to multimedia projects required for magazines, newspapers, catalogs and any other print media.

The QXD file extension is used in QuarkXpress 5 and earlier. For QuarkXPress versions 6 and later, they are now using the .qxp file extension, but the old .qxd files can be exported to .qxp files using the same mentioned software. QXD files can also be opened using Adobe InDesign with Q2ID plugin.
