What is QuarkXPress?
QuarkXPress is a desktop publishing (DTP) tool from Quark Software, Inc. for Mac OS X and Windows computers. The software was initially released in 1987 for Macintosh machines. The Windows version was introduced much later, in 1992.
The software is utilized to create printed literature for various purposes, i.e. advertising, news, information or entertainment. A number of pre-designed layouts are included, generally for marketing campaigns and print publications.
Marketing literature includes brochures, posters, direct marketing tools (DMs) such as direct mails and coupons; postcards, product packaging and other marketing collaterals such as visual aids and product data sheets. For print publications, the user’s options include books, user guides, catalogs, circulars, directories, annuals, financial reports, magazines, and newsletters.
The software allows the user to fully customize each layout, where they can integrate images, photos and logos into the pages; and customize text style and color.
Color management, soft proofing tools, and preflighting allow the user to check the printed output before actual printing. QuarkXPress 9 is the latest addition to the version history of the software.
