Opening PTM files

Did your computer fail to open a PTM file? We explain what PTM files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your PTM files.

What is a PTM file?

The .ptm file extension or the polynomial texture map file extension is a conventional texture map that allows enhanced image quality and allows mapping of varying colors to provide more depth and variance in the outcome of the image. PTM files store second-order bi-quadratic polynomial coefficients per pixel. Compared to a typical picture that store color per pixel, .ptm store image data that can be dynamic depending on the set up of the environment of the image. The polynomial coefficient of the .ptm undergoes changes. The appearance of the picture or image will change based on either light or viewing position. PTM works exactly like lenticular printed images, but in computer data form.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
