Harvard Graphics Presentation
Harvard Graphics Presentation (.PRS) is a file format used to store slide-show presentations created with Harvard Graphics for Windows versions 1 through 3. These files are the output of that program when users build presentations combining text, diagrams or charts, graphics, and sometimes speaker notes. The .PRS files represent complete presentations suitable for printing slides, producing transparencies, or showing on screen, as was common in the early-1990s computing environment.
These .PRS presentations are saved by Harvard Graphics and are intended to be read, edited, and printed using the same program (or legacy software that still supports these versions). Users typically prepare content (slides) in Harvard Graphics, then print via slide printers or plotters, or show the presentation from the computer screen. Over time, support has been deprecated; newer versions of Harvard Graphics (after version 3) use a different file format (.PR4) for presentations.
Inside, the format is a proprietary binary structure specific to Harvard Graphics v1-3. It uses little-endian byte order as typical for Windows programs of that era. Identifying a valid file of this type can be done via byte signature checks: the first two bytes are 0xDCFE at offset 0, and bytes at offset 10 start with 0x00C8000000.
