What is a PRFPSET file?

A .PRFPSET file is an Adobe Premiere Effect Preset file.

Adobe Premiere Effect Preset files (extension .prfpset) store saved effect and transition configurations used within Adobe Premiere Pro. They let users capture settings - such as effects' parameters, motion, opacity, time remapping, and keyframe data - so they can reuse them in other clips or projects without manually reconstructing them. Users export their custom presets from Premiere's Effects panel, and then later import or share them with others. The main workflow is: in the Effects panel, save a preset from Effect Controls; then export it as a .prfpset; in another project, import it via the Effects panel, and apply it by dragging onto clips.

These files are purely configuration data - not video or audio media - and are encoded in XML. They are human-readable in editors but meant to be used through Premiere, since manual edits risk breaking them. Premiere Pro produces .prfpset files; Effect Presets and Custom Items are commonly stored under user Profiles in the Premiere Pro directory in the Documents folder. Version mismatches between Premiere Pro versions may prevent importing presets exported from newer versions into older ones.

The file begins with an XML declaration (<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>) and contains tags and strings like HANDLEREFFECTS.EFFECTITEMTREE.PRESETSBIN, TREEITEMBASE VERSION, FILTERPRESETITEM OBJECTID, EFFECTBINITEM OBJECTID, and keywords such as DISPLAYNAME, CLASSID, KEYFRAMES, MEDIATYPE, and PARAMETERCONTROLTYPE.
