PDE File
What are PDE files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a PDE file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your PDE files.
What is a PDE file?
PDE files have multiple uses, and Arduino Sketch is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Arduino Sketch File
Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino electronic boards are able to read inputs from various sensors and turn them into an output, e.g., by starting a motor, turning on a light source, or sending an online message.
You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so you use the Arduino programming language, and the Arduino Software (IDE).
An Arduino Sketch file contains the project source code. The latest versions of the Arduino software uses the INO file extension instead of PDE.

All known file formats using extension .PDE
While Arduino Sketch File is a popular type of PDE-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .PDE file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Processing Source Code File
PDE stands for Processing Development Environment. A PDE file is a source code file used in the said programming environment.
Processing is an open-source programming language and integrated development environment that is primarily made to cater to digital arts, new media art, and visual presentations. It is a language environment for art communities that want to create source codes for images, interactions, and animations.
Its purpose is to teach the users the fundamentals of computer programming happening inside the visual paradigms. PDE files contain information pertaining to instructions and source scripts followed by Processing language Advanced scripts, which are generated to support more complex and detailed visual creations.

Prescription Drug Event Format
We know that one PDE format is Prescription Drug Event Format. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested six different PDE openers which you will find listed below.
Various apps that use files with this extension
These apps are known to open certain types of PDE files. Remember, different programs may use PDE files for different purposes, so you may need to try out a few of them to be able to open your specific file.
