Minitab Portable Worksheet

The Minitab Portable Worksheet (.MTP) is a file used by the statistical analysis application Minitab to store worksheet data in a format intended for compatibility across different versions. It includes data entered into the worksheet - including variables in columns and rows, constants, design objects, and any matrices used - saved with the goal of preserving that content so that other installations of Minitab (especially older versions) can open it.

Minitab produces MTP files when the user selects the "Save Worksheet As" command and chooses to save in its portable worksheet format. In older releases, worksheets saved in MTP format can be read by earlier versions of Minitab that cannot open newer worksheet formats. These files differ from the regular worksheet files (.MTW or MWX) which may carry features not supported in older software. Users typically save in this format when needing to share data or move it between different versions of the program.

Each MTP file begins with a distinctive magic signature: at byte offset zero is the ASCII string "MinitabPortableWorksheet" to identify the format in binary form.
