What is a MPS file?

MPS files have multiple uses, and MPEG-1 System Stream is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

MPEG-1 System Stream

The MPEG standard specifies how audio and video data can be stored in the same data stream and the System Stream contains timing data to synchronize the video and audio.

While MPEG-1 System Stream is a popular type of MPS-file, we know of 5 different uses of the .MPS file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Mathematical Programming System file

MPS is a file format for presenting and archiving linear programming (LP) and mixed-integer programming problems. It is the de-facto standard ASCII format among most of the commercial LP solvers.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested ten different MPS openers which you will find listed below.

Garmin MapSource data

This type of .MTS file contains map data for Garmin MapSource, so you can use the map when you are not connected to the internet.

Microsoft Pocket Streets Map

Map data for use on the old Microsoft Pocket PCs, which has been discontinued many years ago.

Wolf RPG Editor Map

We know that one MPS format is Wolf RPG Editor Map. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
