What is a MPA file?

An MPA file is a MPEG audio file. It is the predecessor of formats like .mpg and .mp4.
MPEG is a set of standards for lossy compression of video and audio. This means, audio and video compressed (reduced in size) using the MPEG algorithms have lower quality, but usually not noticeably, than the original files, but the size is significantly smaller.
