What are MP1 files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a MP1 file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your MP1 files.

What is a MP1 file?

A .MP1 file is a MPEG-1 Audio Layer 1 file.

Files with the MP1 file extension are audio files in the MPEG-1 Audio Layer 1 format.

MP1 files are compressed audio files, which means that the input audio data stream is reduced in size by the encoder when creating the file, without compromising the sound quality too much.

MP1 files are a simplified version of MP2, mainly created for systems with less powerful CPUs as the compression scheme used in MP1 is simpler and does not require as much CPU power when playing the file. The downside is that the size of MP1 files is bigger than MP2 files and much bigger than MP3.

Today MP1 is pretty much considered obsolete.
