MKA stands for Matroska Audio Stream and is an audio file format. The name "Matroska" is derived from the Russian word for "nesting doll" because MKA files can "nest" several multimedia files into one single file. This type of file is often referred to as a "container" file.
MKA files are an audio-only version of MKV files, which is the Matroska Video file format, which may or may not contain audio too.
