What is an IDF file?
IDF files have multiple uses, and Microsoft Instrument Definition is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Microsoft Instrument Definition File
The .idf file extension is most commonly associated with MIDI instrument definition files. The IDF files define the parameters of a MIDI instrument or controller. These files provide the instrument ID, key map, channel assignments, and other necessary MIDI information.
How to open IDF files
Important: Different programs may use files with the IDF file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your IDF file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
