GDG File
What are GDG files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a GDG file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your GDG files.
What is a GDG file?
A .GDG file is a GDevelop Game Project file.
The GDevelop Game Project file (extension .gdg) is used by GDevelop, an open-source, cross-platform, no-code game editor. It stores all the settings, assets, scenes (layouts) and logic (event sheets) of a game in progress. When you build, test, or export a game, GDevelop reads this file to know which graphics, sounds, objects, scenes, variables and extensions to use.
This file is created and updated by the GDevelop development environment whenever you save your project. Users can edit the contents indirectly by using GDevelop's user interface to add objects, define game rules (events), set layouts, and import resources. It is not meant to be directly edited by hand, though because it is in XML structure it is readable with a text editor.
Technically the file is stored in XML format. It begins with the standard XML header (for example '') and contains tags referencing executable filenames, layout names, object definitions, built-in and external extensions, variable declarations and configuration settings.
