What is a DGR file?

A .DGR file is a PhoneTools Internal Graphic Format file.

PhoneTools Internal Graphic Format files serve as a proprietary graphic/fax image format used by the Classic PhoneTools software from BVRP Software. These files store graphics, such as logos or cover-page images, and fax data that the software uses internally, especially for displaying or sending received or user-assigned images in the fax process. It is primarily created and read by the PhoneTools program.

The format is binary and not based on XML or plain text. It is treated similarly to formats like BMP, PCX, GIF, JPG, and TIF when importing logos or images into PhoneTools: the software supports DGR among those formats for logos used in cover pages. Unlike those common formats, DGR's internal structure is proprietary and intended for use only by applications aware of the format.

Files in this format begin with a specific byte signature that identifies them as belonging to PhoneTools Internal Graphic Format. The signature at offset 0 is the ASCII string "PGF-(c)BVRP Software 89-01".

How to open DGR files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DGR file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DGR file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
