What is Arena?

Arena is a very widely used simulation program. Its acknowledged strength—and general purpose for most of its users—is in business process simulation, in which it excels due to its high level of flexibility: it has been used to simulate events as varied as a call center system and a precious metal mining operation. The purpose of all simulations, of course, is to run tests and check for potential areas of optimization.

Arena comes in several editions, with the Standard Edition being the usual entry point for most enterprises making use of it. The Standard Edition can model a variety of processes and, like other editions, can return a simulation report in terms of precise statistical figures that can be crunched and pored over for further analysis. It makes use of Arena’s flowchart modeling style, which promotes quick simulation creation, and also offers a spreadsheet view for parameter entry. It includes debugging tools, tools for breaking down model logic, and predictive tools. It can also dynamic data visuals for reporting purposes, courtesy of the bundled Arena Visual Designer. Users of this edition can upgrade it to the Professional Edition at any time for a cost.
