What is a DC3 file?

A .DC3 file is a Diamond Caves 3 Levels Group file.

Diamond Caves 3 Levels Group files store level-group data for Diamond Productions' game Diamond Caves 3. They organise a set of "caves" (levels) into named collections or groups, for the game to load and present as themed or sequenced level sets. Players play through all caves within a level group; multiple groups may exist per game installation.

The creator of these files is Diamond Productions; the files are written by the game (or its accompanying level-editor for registered users). After creation they are read in by the game to enable level-group selection and progression.

Internal signatures include a header beginning at byte 0 with the ASCII string DC3LVLGR followed by two bytes (02 00), as well as presence of the string "DC3LVLGR" elsewhere in the data. Another characteristic string sometimes found within the file is "AACS".

How to open DC3 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the DC3 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your DC3 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
