CYP File
What are CYP files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a CYP file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CYP files.
What is a CYP file?
A .CYP file is a Crocodile Physics Simulation file.
Crocodile Physics Simulation files store saved interactive experiments made with the Crocodile Physics application by Crocodile Clips Ltd. They capture all parts, connections, component settings, and graphical layout for simulations of electricity, optics, waves, motion and force, so that the experiment can be run immediately when loaded. These files are created when a simulation is saved inside Crocodile Physics (version 1.5 and later) or in Cocodrilo Tecnología as a "Physics simulation".
These saved simulation files are used to reopen or share experiments, allowing editing of component values, repositioning of parts, and observing behavior like current flow, light patterns or motion paths. Crocodile Technology (Cocodrilo Tecnología) can also open older simulation files from Crocodile Physics, provided the files do not use components introduced in more recent optics or motion and force experiments.
Internally the format is binary with identifiable signatures. The file begins (offset 0) with bytes that translate as "......CCircuit", and contains various internal labels such as "CSERIALIZEHACK", "CPART", "COMPONENTS", "CWIRE", "OTHERS", "NULLTREE" and "CTERMINAL" among others.
How to open CYP files
Important: Different programs may use files with the CYP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CYP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested three different CYP openers which you will find listed below.
