What are CRYPROJECT files and how to open them

What is a CRYPROJECT file?

A .CRYPROJECT file is a CryEngine Project file.

CryEngine Project files represent the configuration of a game project created and used by Crytek's CryENGINE game engine. They store project metadata, dependencies, content locations, and startup settings in JSON format so the engine and its tools can load and build a project in a consistent and controlled way.

These files are generated by the CRYENGINE Launcher (or newer versions through the Sandbox Editor) when starting a new project. They define where the project's code and assets are stored, which engine version and plug-ins are required, what console variables and commands should execute at launch, and project name and identifier. They allow the engine to locate all necessary files, generate build solutions (e.g. for Visual Studio via CMake), and ensure the correct initialization of project-specific settings.

Internally the file is valid JSON. It begins with a version field specifying the syntax version for automatic migration across engine updates. It also contains sections such as content (assets, code paths), info (GUID, name), require (engine identifier and plug-ins list), console_variables, and console_commands.

How to open CRYPROJECT files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CRYPROJECT file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CRYPROJECT file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
