What are CPS files and how to open them

What is a CPS file?

CPS files have multiple uses, and Corel PhotoHouse Image is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

These CPS files contain bitmap images created in Corel Photo House, a discontinued raster graphics editor. You could create bitmaps, edit photographs, or add text and special effects.

The Powder Toy Compressed Powder Save

The Powder Toy Compressed Powder Save files store snapshots of simulations created by the Powder Toy physics sandbox program. They preserve a particular simulation's state - including particles, walls, environmental settings, and decorations - so that the exact scene can be reloaded later for further experimentation or sharing. These files are produced by Powder Toy while playing, or when downloading ".cps" files from the website or community content.

When a simulation is saved, the program gathers all relevant data (such as particle types, velocities, temperature, wall layout, any signs or decorations, and simulation flags for things like gravity, air, and pause modes), packages it into a structured form, compresses this form using bzip2, and writes header metadata to the file. When the file is later opened in Powder Toy, the program reads the metadata, decompresses the data, restores particles, walls, and other map layers, and returns the simulation to exactly how it was when saved.
