While Asymetrix Compel Presentation is a popular type of CPL-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .CPL file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Corel Color Palette

These CPL files contain the color palettes used in Corel Draw, a graphics editor. You can choose between various color models, color mixers, and color palettes. You can create your own color palettes. The palettes you create and the preset palettes are split between two main folders: "My Palettes" and "Palette libraries."

Windows Control Panel Item

We know that one CPL format is Windows Control Panel Item. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
