What are CNV files and how to open them

What is a CNV file?

How to open CNV files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CNV file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CNV file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested eight different CNV openers which you will find listed below.

All known file formats using extension .CNV

While DB2 Conversion File is a popular type of CNV-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .CNV file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Piklib 8 Script

Piklib 8 Script format stores scripted behavior for the Cnv scripting language used in the PIKLib engine. It is a plain-text script file used to define interactions, game logic, dialogues, or event triggers in games built with PIKLib, a 2-D point-and-click engine from the Adventures of Reksio (Polish games released 2002-2007). The engine reads these scripts to control what happens in the game world.

PIKLib tools also support .class and .def filenames in addition to this format. The scripting files are encoded in CP-1250 character encoding and include commands and definitions in a custom language sometimes called "Cnv language script". These scripts are written by game developers or modders and loaded at runtime by the engine; only the engine (and some modding tools) write them.

Internally the file format begins with a text header signature: the ASCII bytes 7B 3C 43 3A 36 3E 7D 0D 0A ("{<C:6>}" followed by a line break) appear at the start of the file.
