CMR File

What are CMR files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CMR file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your CMR files.

What is a CMR file?

A .CMR file is a SeeYou Raster Map file.

SeeYou Raster Map format stores high-detail map images together with their geospatial calibration so SeeYou can display them correctly over geographic coordinates. It is used to add scanned map sheets, satellite photos, or sectional charts to the SeeYou software so that pilots can overlay their flight paths, airspaces, and waypoints over realistic map backgrounds. The main use is in flight planning, debriefing, and navigation visualization in SeeYou.

Files are produced by Naviter's SeeYou programs (for desktop or mobile) when exporting or downloading map resources in the proprietary raster format. They are read and displayed by SeeYou's "Raster Maps" tool. Once a CMR map is calibrated and loaded, no further setup is required: SeeYou recognizes its embedded calibration and places it appropriately. CMR maps are shared as single files.

A CMR Raster Map can include various raster sources such as sectional chart maps (for example, U.S. Sectionals), satellite images, or topographic scans. These maps usually correspond to fixed geographic regions (e.g. a state or chart area), and support multiple zoom levels to maintain good resolution when zoomed in.

Files begin with the ASCII signature CUMAP at offset zero.
