What are CLBX files and how to open them

What is a CLBX file?

A .CLBX file is a MP3 Automagic CD Cover Creator Label file.

MP3 Automagic CD Cover Creator Label files store layout and appearance settings for printable CD covers meant for MP3 CD diskettes. They are created by MP3 Automagic CD Cover Creator (often abbreviated MACCC), a Windows program made by Brian Pipa and PipaSoft. This program scans MP3 folders, reads tag or filename info, and outputs CD cover artwork (front, back, or inserts) in various formats - such as plain text, HTML, PDF - and saves label‐layout settings in this file type so the same design can be edited or reused later.

Within the workflow, Label files are written by MACCC when the user configures cover design options - font faces, spine and front colors, folding or slim‐case layout, sorting mode, directories to show, what metadata to include, and so forth. These files are loaded back into that program (or into CDRLabel, which MACCC supports) to resume editing. Eventually the design is rendered via other output formats for printing or sharing.

When inspecting the contents of a Label file, it begins with the ASCII header string "<cdrLabel version=" at byte offset zero. It contains many configuration keywords such as LFPITCHANDFAMILY, SPINEBKGNDCOLOR, TOTALFILES, SHOWSPINE, EXTENSIONS, among others.

Important: Different programs may use files with the CLBX file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CLBX file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
