What are CDG files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a CDG file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.

What is a CDG file?

A .CDG file is a CD Graphics Karaoke Video file.

CDG is an acronym for Compact Disc plus Graphic. Files that contain the .cdg file extension normally store raw image graphics. The images in CDG files are usually low-resolution graphics used with an audio file for a particular track on an audio CD.

Karaoke programs commonly use these CDG files to display the lyrics and graphics when the Karaoke program is playing a particular song.

Many people think that CDG files do not store any audio data. This is not the case. The CDG files do contain the audio data for the song associated with the file, and a user could play the CDA file just as they would any standard audio file. However, a user must use a Karaoke program to display the graphics that are included with the file.
