What are CCA files and how to open them

What is a CCA file?

CCA files have multiple uses, and CorelCENTRAL Card is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

CorelCENTRAL Card

CorelCENTRAL Card files store records arranged like physical or index cards within a small personal-information management application named CorelCENTRAL, which was part of Corel's WordPerfect Office suite. These files let users organize and categorize contact data, notes, inventories or other reference details using predefined or custom fields. The Card File application allows templates (for instance travel, wine, music) with preset fields to be used and saved as personal card file collections.

These files are created by the CorelCENTRAL Card File program (often seen in WordPerfect Office 2002 and in CorelCENTRAL 10). After entering or importing data into cards, the user can save the set of cards as a file for later editing or sharing. Earlier versions of CorelCENTRAL permitted exporting or publishing card files to HTML, and templates could be used as starting points.

A Card File of this type begins with the ASCII byte signature CorelCENTRAL Card File at offset 0, which identifies the file format. The extensions used include CCA, CCC, and CCF.

How to open CCA files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CCA file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CCA file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

While CorelCENTRAL Card is a popular type of CCA-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .CCA file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

Multimedia Fusion - Click'n'Create File

Multimedia Fusion - Click'n'Create files store complete interactive multimedia projects built using the Clickteam tools known as Click'n'Create (later renamed Multimedia Fusion). These projects include visual scenes ("frames"), event logic ("events"), asset references (images, sounds), and all setup needed in the editor to build a game or interactive application. Produced in versions 1.0 through 1.5 of Click'n'Create/Multimedia Fusion, these files serve as the editable source work, not compiled launches.

Clickteam's Multimedia Fusion can load these files so that the creator can continue editing: adding frames, defining event behaviours, integrating objects. They are not executable binaries and must be converted into the newer project format (.MFA) or built into standalone applications to run publicly. Multimedia Fusion 2 and later editions can import these files to preserve old work.

These files begin with the ASCII sequence "CnC2U" at offset zero, include various internal section identifiers like ".ATNF" at position 13, and contain keywords such as "LAPPLICATION", "CLASS LFRAMEITEMINSTANCE", "CLASS CHANDLEITEMLIST", among others, which mark key structures of frames, events, and assets in the file.
