What are CCB files and how to open them

What is a CCB file?

A .CCB file is a CocosBuilder Info file.

CocosBuilder Info files store scene and interface definitions used during the design phase in CocosBuilder, a visual editor for Cocos2d game development. These files are saved by the editor and contain all the information needed to build interactive scenes, UI layouts, and animations before being converted to formats optimized for runtime use. The format enables designers to define how objects are placed, animated, and behave, including custom properties, class assignments, callbacks, and sequences of animations.

The files are human-readable XML using Apple's Property List (plist) format, with nested structure representing nodes (scene graph), properties, children, sequences, keyframes, and related layout metadata. Design metadata such as "stage border", "sprite frame", resolution settings, and node anchoring are included. The information is used by CocosBuilder to edit the project and by Cocos2d (and its variants) engines to parse and convert the design into runtime assets. Once the design is completed, the project often publishes a compact binary version for efficient loading.

A technical signature identifiers help programs recognise these files: they usually begin with an ASCII XML declaration that includes "xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"" followed by a DOCTYPE declaration referencing Apple's Public DTD for Property Lists. Internally they contain keywords such as NODEGRAPH, SEQUENCES, MEMBERVARASSIGNMENTNAME, CUSTOMCLASS, JSControlled, SPRITEFRAME, among others.
