What are CALIBZ files and how to open them

What is a CALIBZ file?

A .CALIBZ file is a Chief Architect Symbol Library file.

Chief Architect Symbol Library files store collections of symbols, textures, and images used by Chief Architect design software. They serve as library catalogs that group together items like 3D symbols, materials, and custom objects so they can be imported into a user's library for reuse. These library files are produced by Chief Architect when exporting content or creating custom symbol/content catalogs.

These files are used by Chief Architect itself. A user exports library content (symbols, textures and images) from a project or the User Library into one of these catalog files. Later, those catalogs can be imported into another Chief Architect installation or shared between users. When imported, the program copies or references any included images/textures into its Library Browser and Data folders.

Chief Architect library files come in two related forms: one type includes only library items like symbols and object definitions; the variant supports saving associated textures and images in addition to those items. The texture/image - inclusive form is generally the format used for exporting libraries when visual fidelity and resource sharing are required.

Files in this format begin with the bytes 0x50 0x4B 0x03 0x04 (corresponding to "PK", indicating a ZIP archive structure). The contents also contain the string ".CALIBPK".

How to open CALIBZ files

Important: Different programs may use files with the CALIBZ file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your CALIBZ file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
